Alternate Outcome!!!!
Lee Harvey Oswald decided not to shoot President Kennedy. His reasoning for wanting to shoot him was because he was a socialist on the verge of communism, and he did not support the kind of work Kennedy was doing. Ultimately though, he decided that if he were to shoot the President, America's motivation for containing communism would be even stronger. In Oswald's view, their was no gain in shooting Kennedy. He would go to prison and his party would suffer more. He packed up his gun and walked back down the stairs of the Texas School Book Depository.

Although Kennedy had said in an interview “but I don't agree with those who say we should withdraw. That would be a great mistake,” on October 11, 1963, Kennedy signed NSAM 263, which started the withdrawal of 1000 American troops from Vietnam. President Kennedy planned to withdraw all troops from Vietnam by the end of 1965. After all U.S. military forces left South Vietnam, North Vietnam took advantage of the opportunity and conquered South Vietnam. North and South Vietnam joined together and became a world-power. They began to conquer surrounding territories including Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar. The U.S. became aware of the dangers of this conflict and acted swiftly. War was declared on Vietnam by Kennedy's successor Barry Goldwater after he became President in 1968, continuing the United States's policy of containment. His reasoning was to "stop the dominoes from falling any farther". But soon, President Goldwater realized that if fighting continued there would be too many casualties and the sacrifice would be too great.

The United States pulled out of Vietnam on January 23, 1973. On February 3, 1973 three nuclear bombs were dropped on the cities Hanoi, Hué, and Danang, three major cities in Vietnam. Vietnam immediately surrendered and withdrew from the countries they had previously conquered.

Initially, China, who had recently undergone their own communist revolution in 1949, seemed to accept the fact that Vietnam was obliterated. But secretly, the were tired of the United States taking action in affairs that, in China's opinion, did not concern them. China had already fought America in the Korean War, pushing them back from their border to the 38th parellel, so they believed that they were the one's who could take down American democracy once and for all. One year after the bombing of Vietnam, Chinese soldiers invaded America, bringing war to our homeland for the first time since the Civil War. Many innocent people died and the war lasted for 21 years. The uncanny length of the war was due to china's great numbers, and the United states was only able to win the war because of their superior combat skill and weaponry advances. As a result of this great U.S. victory, no opposing force was daring enough to wage war with us until September 11, 2001.

Kennedy became a renowned author, recounting his various experiences in politics. In fact, every one of his books topped the New York Times best selling list, thus making him the most successful author of any United States president. Lee Harvey Oswald became a leader of the socialist party and decided to run for President in 1972. He suffered a loss winning only three percent of the votes, marking the largest defeat in a presidential election. Unfazed by his humiliating defeats, Oswald ran for the next five elections never to win more than six percent of the vote. Oswald became extremely disheartened after much public mockery and committed suicide.
